Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to the Lord, and He will have love, pity, and mercy for him, and to our God, for He will multiply to him His abundant pardon.
Isaiah 55:7 AMPC
In Isaiah 55:7, we find a profound invitation. This verse resonates with gratitude for God’s boundless mercy and forgiveness. We can’t help but thank God for not leaving us to perish in our sins. Without His gracious provision for our redemption, our lives would be devoid of hope, peace, and the prospect of prosperity. We would be trapped in the relentless grip of fear.
But God’s indescribable gift, as stated in 2 Corinthians 9:15, has changed our destiny. It’s essential to understand that the path to receiving this unmerited favour begins with forsaking sin completely. We must sever our ties with sin in all its forms, both in our actions and in our thoughts. The call is clear: renounce sin entirely, for in doing so, you open the door to God’s love and mercy.
Ezekiel 18:21-23 reinforces this message, emphasising God’s desire for repentance and life. God wants to draw anyone who repents close to Himself. He is ready to give life and in abundance.
If someone evil stops sinning and keeps my laws, if he does what is right and good, he will not die; he will certainly live. All his sins will be forgiven, and he will live because he did what is right. Do you think I enjoy seeing evil people die? No, I would rather see them repent and live.
Ezekiel 18:21-23 GNT
Altogether, God takes no pleasure in our suffering due to hidden sins or in our spiritual demise. His delight is in our willingness to turn away from sinful ways and thoughts and return to Him. He longs to multiply His abundant pardon in our lives.
Besides, Ezekiel 18:26-28 reaffirms God’s commitment to justice and righteousness. God’s stance on this matter has not changed in our generation. It is the same. Just like He is ready to pour His boundless mercy and forgiveness on anyone who repents.
If a righteous person turns from their righteousness and commits sin, they will die for it; because of the sin they have committed, they will die. But if a wicked person turns away from the wickedness they have committed and does what is just and right, they will save their life. Because they consider all the offenses they have committed and turn away from them, that person will surely live; they will not die.
Ezekiel 18:26-28 NIV
Above all, in the flow of God’s mercy, the river of forgiveness awaits those who forsake sin and return to Him. It’s a call to align our lives with His will, seeking His forgiveness, and allowing His love to transform us. May we all become rivers of His grace, bringing life and renewal to those around us.
So, as we heed the call to forsake sin and return to God, we enter into the flow of His boundless mercy and forgiveness. God’s desire is for us to live in righteousness, free from the burdens of sin. Let us embrace this opportunity for transformation, knowing that in His mercy, we find forgiveness, life, and the promise of a brighter future.
