But there is a spirit in man, And the breath of the Almighty gives him understanding.
Job 32:8 NKJV
This profound truth reminds us that true wisdom, knowledge, and understanding – the cornerstones of success in life – flow from a divine source. These are divine gifts, bestowed upon us by God Himself. The breath of the Almighty is essential not only in spiritual realms but also in our everyday lives. Whether it’s navigating our careers, nurturing our marriages, or serving in Christian ministries. The breath of the Almighty gives us the wisdom, knowledge, and understanding that we need to succeed in life. As Proverbs 2:6 (NIV) states, “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”
Solomon was a great example of someone who received wisdom from God. He asked God for a wise and discerning heart, and God granted his request. God said to him, “I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be.” (1 Kings 3:12 NIV)
The people of Israel witnessed Solomon’s wisdom, especially when he judged difficult cases. They held him in awe, because they saw that he had wisdom from God to administer justice. (1 Kings 3:28 NIV) His fame echoed far and wide, a testament to the power of God-given wisdom.
God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore. Solomon’s wisdom was greater than the wisdom of all the people of the East, and greater than all the wisdom of Egypt. He was wiser than anyone else, including Ethan the Ezrahite—wiser than Heman, Kalkol and Darda, the sons of Mahol. And his fame spread to all the surrounding nations.
1 Kings 4:29-31 NIV
Yet, while God desires to bestow wisdom upon all, not everyone embraces this gift. Indeed, not everyone can receive this gift of wisdom from God. The sinner who chases material wealth misses the true treasure – the wisdom granted to those who please God. But for those who choose to become His children, the doors swing wide. When we open our hearts to the Spirit of God, He becomes our guide, shaping our understanding and leading us towards a fulfilling life.
To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God. This too is meaningless, a chasing after the wind.
Ecclesiastes 2:26 NIV
Jesus’ words resonate: “You must be born again.” (John 3:7) You can become a child of God by believing in His Son, Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and rose again. Only as children of God can we receive the Holy Spirit. By surrendering our lives to Jesus, we step onto a path towards eternal life – a life empowered by divine wisdom.
Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.” So you are no longer a slave, but God’s child; and since you are his child, God has made you also an heir.
Galatians 4:6-7 NIV
Therefore, this divine adoption grants us access to the Spirit of God, guiding us as His children. As Romans 8:14 (NIV) declares, “For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.”
In conclusion, wisdom is a precious gift from God that we all need in our lives. So, let us not settle for a shadow of the true potential God offers. Let us seek “the breath of God” in all we do, embracing the transformation that comes with being children of the Almighty. In doing so, we cultivate the wisdom that leads to success, fulfilment, and a life that truly shines. Let us seek God’s wisdom today and always, for it is more valuable than gold and silver.
