Arise with God: Strength for the Poor and the Oppressed

Arise with God: Strength for the Poor and the Oppressed - Psalm 12:5

But the Lord says, “Now I will arise! I will defend the poor, those who were plundered, the oppressed, and the needy who groan for help. I will spring into action to rescue and protect them!”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭12‬:‭5‬ ‭TPT‬‬

In life, we face overwhelming challenges that often seem beyond our control. Sometimes, even after we have prayed and hoped for change, the situation remains the same. This can lead to feelings of discouragement and doubt about God’s plans. However, Psalm 12:5 reminds us of God’s promise: “Now I will arise! I will defend the poor,…the oppressed, and the needy who groan for help.” Let’s explore the powerful message behind this scripture.

Firstly, it’s essential to recognise who is speaking. It is the Lord. If these were a human’s words, we might be sceptical because humans often fail to keep promises. In fact, the Bible encourages us not to place our ultimate trust in people, including ourselves, because human promises can falter. Instead, we should rely on God. So, in this passage, it is God who declares His intention to arise and act.

Additionally, we cannot overemphasise the significance of God’s timing in this promise. He says, “Now I will arise,” indicating that His action is immediate and purposeful, not something that will occur in a distant future. God intends to take definite and decisive action. He assures us that He is not reminiscing about what He could have done in the past but is committed to acting now.

Meanwhile, let’s consider the specific groups God promises to help: the poor, the oppressed, and the needy. The poor are those who see themselves as insignificant and recognise their need for God’s help. Their possessions might have been unjustly taken from them; they might have been robbed of their resources, dignity, or peace by others. God declares He will intervene for these individuals.

Similarly, the oppressed and needy are those who suffer under the weight of injustice or lack basic necessities. God pledges to defend those who acknowledge their dependence on Him and cry out for His help. Importantly, this promise is not for those who remain oblivious to their need for God or who proudly think they can manage on their own. It is for those who humbly seek God’s intervention.

Are you among those who need God’s help today? Whether you face oppression, financial struggles, spiritual battles, or any challenge, remember that God is willing to help you. He is rising now to support those who earnestly call on Him.

Rather than succumbing to worry, fear, or despair, direct your energy toward seeking God in prayer. Ask Him for help, trusting that His words are reliable and His promises unfailing. God’s truth has been tested and proven flawless, and He is faithful to fulfil what He has spoken.

In conclusion, God is ready to spring into action for those who cry out to Him. Don’t delay in seeking His help. Let today be the day you turn to Him, listing yourself among those He will rescue and protect. Tomorrow might be too late.
