from Zebulun, experienced soldiers prepared for battle with every type of weapon, to help David with undivided loyalty—50,000
1 Chronicles 12:33 NIV
Integrity means whole rather than divided. It is the state of being wholesome or the quality of being complete. It is the state of being undivided, complete in devotion and purpose. As believers, we have the call to be people of integrity. To be lights shining in the darkness so that the world may see our undivided hearts and glorify our Father in heaven.
We find a powerful daily prayer in David’s words in Psalm 86:11: “Unite my heart”. This plea reflects the human tendency towards distraction, inconsistency, and divided loyalty. So, in times when we feel all over the place, we should pray. “Put me together, Lord, because right now my life is scattered in a thousand directions!”
Scripture warns against a double-minded heart. The men of Zebulun exemplified undivided devotion as they rose “to help David with undivided loyalty” (1 Chronicles 12:33). A divided heart weakens faith, leading to instability (James 1:6-8). However, when our hearts are fully devoted to God, we become strong and effective for His purpose.
Also, Paul exemplified an undivided heart, declaring, “This one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and reaching forward to what is ahead, I press on towards the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 3:13-14). His singular focus on Christ enabled him to live with unwavering purpose.
Similarly, 2 Chronicles 16:9 reminds us, “The eyes of the Lord move to and fro throughout the earth that He may strongly support those whose heart is completely His.” God desires our wholehearted devotion, and when we yield to Him, He strengthens and upholds us.
We are all prone to distractions that pull our hearts in multiple directions. Whether it is the cares of life, the pursuit of personal ambitions, or the subtle allure of compromise, these things can divide our focus. Moreover, the hymn “Come Thou Fount” expresses this struggle.
Prone to wander, Lord, I feel it,
Prone to leave the God I love;
Here’s my heart, O take and seal it,
Seal it for Thy courts above.
An undivided heart fears the Lord, trusts His ways, and seeks His glory above all else. It is steadfast in faith, unwavering in purpose, and committed to righteousness. A divided heart leads to instability, but a heart fully surrendered to God finds strength, purpose, and joy in Him. May we, like David, continually pray for undivided hearts, seeking to walk in God’s truth and reflect His glory in our lives. As we pursue a single-minded devotion to Christ, may our words, actions, and desires align with His will.
