Teach Me: The Prayer of a Doer

Teach Me: The Prayer of a Doer - Psalm 143:10

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

Psalm 143:10 NIV

“Teach me to do your will”, don’t just show me what your will is, but teach me how to do it. Teach me how to turn my hand dexterously to my duty. This should be the desire of all God’s faithful children, to know and to do His will, and to stand complete in it. If we in sincerity take God as our God, we can depend upon him to teach us to do his will, as a master does his servant.

We cannot find the way that will bring us to doing God’s will unless He shows us. Neither can we go in that way unless He takes us by the hand and leads us. Just as we lead those who are weak, lame, weak-kneed, or dim-sighted. The grace of God is necessary, not only to put us in the good way, but to keep us and carry us on in it.

I wish that you too, like David, will cry unto the Lord that He may teach you to know and to accomplish His will for your life. Those that have the Lord as their God have his Spirit as their guide. And it is both their character and their privilege that they are led by the Spirit. You can therefore be confident in this promise from Jeremiah 33:3 “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

Psalm 143:10 asks God to teach and guide the psalmist to do His will. It emphasizes the importance of God’s Spirit in leading a balanced life. As believers, we have to approach God with humility and seek His guidance. He desires to lead us in the way we should go, and we can trust in His teaching, goodness and wisdom.
