And I am convinced and sure of this very thing, that He Who began a good work in you will continue until the day of Jesus Christ [right up to the time of His return], developing [that good work] and perfecting and bringing it to full completion in you.
Philippians 1:6 AMPC
The world is full of uncertainties, and we are gripped by the same, ‘just follow the trend’. We can find uncertainties all around us – the economy, weather, news – never sure what the next headline will be. Unfortunately, we are guilty of the same even in our walk of faith. Our focus is as fickle as the wave. We walk in ‘faith’, but without confidence.
However, we see Paul, though in prison, was yet full of confidence. He trusted that God who began the work of salvation in the life of the Philippian believers will continue the work. And, it will attain fulfilment and perfection on the day of Jesus Christ. How astonishing is such overwhelming confidence amidst great suffering.
Such confidence cannot come from the flesh (self). This grounding solely rests on Christ Jesus. Hence, as God’s handiwork (Ephesians 2:10-For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do), we can be sure that He is constantly at work in us (Philippians 2:13-For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose).
And, He is strengthening our faith so that we can have the courage and confidence of access into His presence (Ephesians 3:12-In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.), knowing fully well that nothing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord (Romans 8:38-39).
Therefore, we can be confident that God will complete the work He started in us. He will not give up on us or abandon us. Similarly, we can trust that God knows what He is doing in our lives. He has a plan and a purpose for us, and He is working it out.
However, the question to you now is this: “do you have this same confidence?”.
