Verse of the Day – Psalm 62:1-2 NIV

Psalm 62:1-2

Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him. Truly he is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will never be shaken.

Psalm 62:1-2 NIV

Humans come into the world as vulnerable creatures, utterly dependent on their parents for their survival. People need to experience an emotional attachment with a nurturing parent to develop a healthy capacity to trust.

As believers, we are called to simply have faith in God. We are to trust Him irrespective of what the circumstance seems like. The believer’s trust in God is different from our trust in one another. Our confidence is based on what God’s word has said. We trust God even when we have not yet necessarily experienced the ’emotional attachment’. And so, the Psalmist says here confidently that he finds rest in God. He could have this confidence because he has come to know God as the source of his salvation.

The statement of David is both encouraging and challenging at the same time. He openly declares that the Lord is the source of his rest. This was a man who fought many wars. He went through a lot of challenges. Yet, he said that his soul has found rest in God. The rest that is not necessarily from the absence of war. He affirms that his deliverance and salvation is from God. Thus, even in the midst of challenges he finds rest in this confidence in God.

Where do you find rest? What is the source of your salvation?

The Lord has prepared a lot of benefits for us in salvation. But, this may not profit us if we don’t accept it by faith. Our faith in God is the source of our conviction. God is our rock and fortress. This brings the assurance: that come what may, we will never be shaken.
