The world and everything in it that people desire is passing away; but those who do the will of God live forever.
1 John 2:17 GNT
The world is temporary and so is the worldly man’s possessions, and everything that it has to offer. Though a man may possess pyramids of gold, nevertheless, they will pass away like a morning cloud. His purposes and pleasures are temporary. His grand plans are just splendid dreams that disappear in the waking hour. The creations of worldly people are temporary. Architecture, painting, commerce, literature, legislation – what are these? A fleeting spectacle that is disappearing.
What was the most desired car five or ten years ago? Is it the same car that people wanted to buy then that they are still running after today? Consider the iPhone for instance, every year the company releases a new model, therefore, the human desire changes to the newer model. This is true especially with regards to gadgets.
What a brief time you’ve given me to live! Compared to you my lifetime is nothing at all! Nothing more than a puff of air—I’m gone so swiftly. So too are the grandest of men; they are nothing but a fleeting shadow!” Pause in his presence We live our lives like those living in shadows. All our activities and energies are spent for things that pass away. We gather, we hoard, we cling to our things, only to leave them all behind for who knows who.
Psalms 39:5-6 TPT
However, on the other hand is God’s will. The will of God is all; there is nothing above, behind, or beyond it. Knowing God’s will, we know the nature of things; we know what true fulfilment is, and we know what truth is, and goodness.
Seeing, then, that the love of the world and the love of the Father are incompatible, which must we choose? Not the former, for its object is already passing away; while not only does the Father abide forever, but he who loves Him and does His will abides forever also.
