God’s Purpose for You: Staying True Amidst Human Expectations

God's Purpose for You: Staying True Amidst Human Expectations - John 6:14-15

After the people saw the sign Jesus performed, they began to say, “Surely this is the Prophet who is to come into the world.” Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.

John 6:14-15 NIV

People can easily misinterpret God’s purpose for your life. Even after you know it, it takes great discipline to continue walking in that purpose. The opinions of those around you may attempt to dissuade you from fulfilling it. In today’s text, Jesus walked in God’s divine plan for His life. Performing miracles was not His main goal but rather a means to an end—a result of what He was doing. However, the people witnessing the miracles, signs, and wonders quickly decided that the best thing was to make Him their king or call Him a prophet.

Yet, Jesus knew His purpose on earth was to reconcile humanity to God. It was to save people from sin and destroy the works of sin and flesh by dying on the cross. He withdrew from that place. He understood that if the people’s plans were fulfilled, it would negate God’s calling over His life.

As believers, we live in a world where people often seek immediate gratification without considering the long-term goals or reasons behind a person’s existence. When they see the “freebies” or blessings in someone’s life, they are quick to offer praise and accolades.

However, this can sometimes become the person’s downfall. Jesus had to intentionally leave that area because He knew that staying would result in receiving something different from what God intended for Him. Though the people thought they were doing the right thing. Jesus, knowing His purpose, understood that their plans were not in line with God’s.

Therefore, believers must know why God has created and placed us in our current situations. Understanding this purpose helps us recognise when people’s praise does not align with God’s mission for us, enabling us to withdraw from those situations. Do you fully grasp why God has placed you in your family, workplace, or circle of friends? Are you walking in the light of that purpose or allowing people’s opinions to distract you?

It is essential to know why you are where you are and why you were sent into the world. This understanding will help you stand firm when people’s opinions conflict with God’s plans and calling for your life.
