Don’t Give Up: Faithful Efforts Will Be Rewarded

Don't Give Up: Faithful Efforts Will Be Rewarded - Ecclesiastes 11:1

Cast thy bread upon the waters: for thou shalt find it after many days.

Ecclesiastes‬ ‭11‬:‭1‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Have you been feeling discouraged? Like your efforts are falling short? It might seem as though your hard work is disappearing without a trace, like bread tossed into water. But this verse encourages us to persevere – don’t give up, trusting in God’s promise of eventual reward.

What does it mean to “cast your bread upon the waters”? Primarily, it signifies taking action and exerting effort, even when the outcome is uncertain. This aligns with the concept of diligence – persistent and consistent work, regardless of immediate results. Additionally, it implies acts of kindness and generosity without expecting immediate returns. This reflects God’s desired character in believers.

Cast your bread on the surface of the waters, [be diligently active, make thoughtful decisions], for you will find it after many days.

Ecclesiastes‬ ‭11‬:‭1‬ ‭AMP‬‬

The Bible assures us that our efforts will be rewarded. Hebrews 11:6 states, “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Casting your bread is a journey of faith. God rewards those who persistently seek Him. Diligence, characterized by consistent hard work and unwavering commitment, is key to reaping the benefits of our labour. Proverbs 22:29 emphasizes this: “Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men.” Galatians 6:9 reinforces the idea: “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season, we shall reap if we faint not.”

Consider the stories of the widow of Zarephath and Joseph. The widow shared her last meal with the prophet Elijah during a famine, an act of faith rewarded with a miraculous supply. Joseph endured slavery and imprisonment, yet his faithfulness and good deeds led him to a position of power.

Perhaps you’re questioning the value of your current efforts. Whether it’s your career, relationships, or personal goals, remember that persistence is vital. Continue casting your bread, trusting in God’s timing and His promise of reward.

Remember, every journey begins with a single step. Don’t give up hope! Keep your faith strong, your efforts consistent, and trust in God’s perfect plan. Your reward may not be immediate, but it is undoubtedly coming.
