Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.
Ecclesiastes 3:11 NLT
Life on Earth is just a dress rehearsal before the real production. This life is not all there is. We will spend far more time in the great beyond. Earth is the preschool, the tryout for our life before the afterlife. This life is preparation for the next. How are you preparing for it? Perhaps, you will live a hundred years on earth, but you will spend forever in eternity. God designed us in His image, to live for eternity. However, death is inevitable. One day your heart will stop beating. That will be the end of your body and your time on earth, but it will not be the end of you. This earthly body is just a temporary residence for our spirit.
For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands.
2 Corinthians 5:1 NLT
Life on earth offers many choices but eternity offers only two – heaven or hell. Your relationship with God on earth will determine what will be your portion after here. When you fully comprehend that there is more to life than here and that there is an eternity, you will live differently. You will start living in the light of eternity. There will be an eternal consciousness that will guide your earthly decisions. When you live in the light of eternity, you value changes. Your affections and desires are altered. You use time and money more wisely. Even Paul recognised this:
I once thought these things were valuable, but now I consider them worthless because of what Christ has done.
Philippians 3:7 NLT
Death is not the end of a man. It is your transition into eternity, so there are eternal consequences to everything you do on earth. In order to help us, God gave us glimpses of eternity in His Word. He regularly kindles our consciousness to know that this is not the end. This is the time to remember that there is an afterlife. Furthermore, prepare as you journey in this race of life. If you have a relationship with Jesus, you do not need to fear death. If you live for the devil or the world then the end result is hell. The deeds of this life are the destiny of the next. Live each day with eternity in view.
