God on Your Side: The Key to Victory

God on Your Side: The Key to Victory - Psalm 124:1

If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, When men rose up against us, Then they would have swallowed us alive

Psalms 124:2-3a NKJV

This scripture highlights the profound benefit of having God on our side. The psalmist intentionally emphasizes that it is God, specifically, who must be on our side, not just anyone. He avoids a general statement like, “If it had not been that we have someone on our side”. This underscores that only God’s presence makes the difference; no one else can substitute His role.

As believers, we must understand that God’s place in our lives cannot be filled by anyone else. No matter how powerful or influential someone may appear, they cannot compare to God’s strength. Like David in Psalm 27:1, we should find our light and salvation in the Lord. When we do, we can echo his confident declaration: “Whom shall I fear? And of whom shall I be afraid?” (NKJV). This reflects the assurance that those confident in God’s presence need not fear any human threat.

Meanwhile, this truth resonates throughout scripture. Psalm 118:6 reinforces the idea: “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” (NKJV). Those who have God on their side can face any challenge without fear. Even in the face of opposition, Isaiah 8:10 declares, “Take counsel together, but it will come to nothing; Speak the word, but it will not stand, For God is with us” (NKJV). This verse emphasises that any human effort against those who have God on their side will ultimately fail.

Furthermore, Apostle Paul, in his letter to the believers in Rome, reinforces this reality: “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” – Romans 8:31 (NKJV). This rhetorical question highlights the unmatched power and protection of having God on our side.

In conclusion, we must seek refuge in God alone. It is only through Christ Jesus that we are more than conquerors. Our true refuge lies only in God. Through Christ Jesus, we are empowered to overcome any obstacle. Let us remember the psalmist’s words and make God our sole source of strength and security. By doing so, we can face any challenge with unwavering confidence.
