The Good News: The Essence of the Gospel

Discover the profound hope and joy encapsulated in the good news of Jesus Christ, the Messiah and Son of God, as proclaimed in Mark 1:1.

The beginning of the good news about Jesus the Messiah, the Son of God,

Mark 1:1 NIV

Mark’s gospel wastes no time in introducing its central figure, Jesus. This is not just any story; it is a proclamation of the good news that was promised. In Genesis, God created man and placed him in the Garden of Eden. God gave man instructions on what to do; however, man acted contrary to God’s divine ordinance. By this, problems entered the world. Sin gained power over man, and the beautiful world God created turned into chaos.

Despite this, the love of God was shed abroad. He wanted to restore the relationship that we had with Him. After God gave his judgement in Genesis 3, He made a promise. This promise was an assurance that man would be restored to Him. So, He promised that the seed of the woman would come and have authority over the enemy. The very authority man gave away through disobedience. To punctuate His resolution, God killed an animal to make skin for the covering of man’s nakedness.

Furthermore, throughout the Old Testament, we see God making provision for man to be connected back to Him. However, we see that no man was found worthy to be the propitiation for the sin of man. So, Jesus, the Messiah, the son of God, came to the world. This is good news! The coming of Jesus Christ, the Messiah, the Son of God, is good news. That is the very essence of the gospel. So, any message that ignores the coming of Jesus is incorrect.

We can rest on this good news. It is something to get excited about, something to find joy in. He, who is the beginning and the end, left His glory to come for you and me. This is good news! It promises hope, redemption, and salvation. It is our reality.
