When God Speaks: Will You Believe the “Impossible”?

When God Speaks: Will You Believe the "Impossible"? - 2 Kings 7:1

Elisha replied, “Hear the word of the Lord. This is what the Lord says: About this time tomorrow, a seah of the finest flour will sell for a shekel and two seahs of barley for a shekel at the gate of Samaria.”

2 Kings 7:1 NIV

In 2 Kings 7, we encounter a powerful story about faith and its impact on God’s blessings. The Israelites in Samaria are under siege, facing starvation and despair. But amidst this darkness, God speaks through the prophet Elisha, promising an abundance of food the very next day. This promise seems impossible, given the dire circumstances. This incredible promise offered hope to a starving people besieged by enemies.

However, one of the king’s officers responded with doubt: “Even if the Lord should open the floodgates of heaven, could this happen?” This unnamed individual, a high-ranking official, embodies doubt. Despite Elisha’s clear message, he questions God’s ability to fulfil it. His disbelief stems from a limited perspective, judging the situation based on human logic rather than divine power. This reaction highlights a crucial point: God’s promises, no matter how extraordinary, require faith.

Additionally, this officer’s doubt stemmed from short-sighted thinking and a disregard for God’s power. He judged God’s ability based on his limited understanding. While the promise seemed too good to be true, God doesn’t operate within human constraints.

However, this officer’s doubt has severe consequences. While the prophecy comes true, bringing miraculous abundance, he is denied the opportunity to partake. He “sees” the fulfilment, but not in a way that brings him joy or benefit. His unbelief robbed him of the blessing. This serves as a stark warning against letting doubt hinder us from receiving God’s promises.

So, when God speaks and we choose faith over doubt and unbelief, we open ourselves to the incredible possibilities God has in store. Just like the Israelites who believed and received the promised food, we too can experience the miraculous when we trust in God’s word. Therefore, the choice is ours: to believe God’s word and walk into His purpose, or to remain in unbelief and miss out on His blessings. Just as Jeremiah 29:11 declares, God has a plan for our future, but it requires our trust.

In conclusion, don’t let doubt steal your blessings! Hold onto God’s word, believe in His power, and step into the future He has prepared for you. Remember, unbelief can lead to missed opportunities, while faith unlocks the door to God’s wondrous plans. Choose faith today and walk into the abundant life God has for you!
