Do not be afraid of them; the Lord your God himself will fight for you.”
Deuteronomy 3:22 NIV
As we are learning the attribute of God as our warrior, there is something we must not do. Do not be afraid! We have seen what should be our disposition in the battles of life. We have the assurance that God will fight for us. But do not give in to fear. That hymn says, ‘Trials dark on every side and we cannot understand’, but do not be afraid in the face of these trials. The ‘them’ referred to can be challenges; it can also be people, but do not be frightened. The Lord your God will fight for you. You need to allow this to sink into your heart.
‘Fear not’ is written many times in the scriptures, and it serves as an emphasis. Situations may come to cause fear but do not give in to it. Always remember that the Lord your God himself will fight for you. Amid life’s struggles, find solace in the promise that God, your defender, actively intervenes on your behalf. Fear not the battles ahead, for the Almighty is not only present but takes an active role in your defence. In times of uncertainty, lean on the assurance that divine strength surpasses any earthly obstacle or adversary.
Instead of succumbing to fear, embrace the certainty that the Lord, your God, personally engages in the battles you encounter. As you confront challenges, trust in God’s promise to actively engage, ensuring victory over every obstacle before you. Nevertheless, the devil may roar but remember that the Lion of the tribe of Judah is your God, and He has promised to fight for you. So, as you journey through this year, one of the things you would not need is fear, which is because God Himself will fight for you.
