You have come to Jesus, who brought the new agreement from God to his people. In that agreement, the blood of Jesus’ death makes us clean from our sins. It tells us that God has forgiven us. When Cain killed his brother Abel, Abel’s blood brought God’s punishment. So, we see that Jesus’ blood brought us something much better than that.
Hebrews 12:24 EASY
As believers in Christ Jesus, we have a special privilege that was not available to the people of the old covenant. We can enter into the presence of God through the blood of Jesus, not the blood of animals. The blood of Jesus is the perfect and final sacrifice for our sins. It cleanses us from all guilt and impurity. Let us explore how the blood of Jesus has brought us a better covenant with God.
The old covenant required repeated animal sacrifices. Under the law given by Moses, the Israelites had to offer the blood of animals to atone for their sins. This was a temporary and incomplete solution, because the animal blood could only cleanse their bodies from ceremonial impurity. It was not able to cleanse their consciences from sinful deeds. Moreover, only the high priest could enter the most holy place in the tabernacle once a year with the blood of an animal. Meanwhile, he had to do it with fear and trembling. (Hebrews 9:6-10, 13)
But now Jesus, our High Priest, has been given a ministry that is far superior to the old priesthood, for he is the one who mediates for us a far better covenant with God, based on better promises. If the first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no need for a second covenant to replace it.
Hebrews 8:6-7 NLT
The new covenant on the other hand, is based on the blood of Jesus. Jesus, our high priest, offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins. He shed his blood on the cross, once and for all, and then entered the heavenly sanctuary with his own blood, securing our eternal redemption. It purifies our consciences from sinful deeds, so that we can worship the living God. Likewise, it also inaugurates a new covenant between God and people. Therefore, all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. (Hebrews 9:11-15, 24-28)
And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water.
Hebrews 10:19-22 NLT
The blood of Jesus gives us bold and confident access to God. Because of the blood of Jesus, we can approach God’s throne of grace with confidence and assurance. We do not need to fear God’s wrath or judgment, because the blood of Jesus has made us clean and righteous before him. We can enjoy God’s presence and fellowship and receive his mercy and grace in our time of need. Also, we can draw near to God with sincere hearts, fully trusting him, and holding firmly to our hope in Christ. (Hebrews 10:19-23, 4:14-16)
The blood of Jesus is the basis of our relationship with God. It tells us that God has forgiven us, accepted us, and loved us. It also empowers us to live a life that is pleasing to God, and to overcome the enemy’s accusations. The blood of Jesus is the most precious and powerful substance in the universe, and we should never take it for granted. Let us always remember and appreciate what Jesus has done for us and let us honour and glorify him with our lives.
