Then Elisha went to the spring of the waters and cast the salt in it and said, Thus says the Lord: I [not the salt] have healed these waters; there shall not be any more death, miscarriage or barrenness [and bereavement] because of it.
2 Kings 2:21 AMPC
In 2 Kings 2:21, Elisha performed a profound miracle by purifying a spring of water. This event underscores the importance of seeking God earnestly and comprehensively. Just as the people of Jericho recognized the urgency of their situation and responded to God’s instructions without hesitation, we too must act promptly when seeking transformation in our lives. The power of calling upon the Lord is evident in this biblical account. The faithful know that God always responds to those who earnestly seek Him. His faithfulness never wavers, and He never turns away from those who cry out for salvation.
This profound truth held significance for the people of Jericho. They recognized the divine opportunity of having Elisha in their city and were determined not to let him depart without addressing their dire circumstances. Likewise, Elisha realised the essence of time, and he could not delay. Have you ever called upon the Lord with a pure heart and received no response? Remember that God is faithful and attentive to those who earnestly seek Him. His responsiveness has remained unwavering from the beginning of time. Therefore, we can trust that He will never turn away those who cry out to Him for help.
Meanwhile, it is crucial to understand that when we call upon the Lord, He speaks to us. His words precede His actions. To experience God’s transformation in our lives, we must heed every word He utters. We must be ready to both listen and obey His instructions. In the case of Jericho, the simple request for a new bowl and some salt marked the initial step of transformation. The people didn’t question the seemingly unusual request. They acted in obedience to Elisha’s instructions. Elisha was merely the mouthpiece, conveying God’s instructions. It’s important to note that divine instructions come from the Holy Spirit, making them distinct from the empty words of humans. Hence, obedience to these instructions set the stage for God’s miraculous intervention.
Elisha, like all true prophets, acted as a conduit for God’s instructions. So, he followed God to the next phase of the transformation process. For true transformation, it’s essential to dig deep and uncover the root of the problem. In fact, the key to total transformation is the ability to go beyond surface issues and address the root cause. So, Elisha went to the source of the contaminated water. In the same way, we must identify and address the core issues in our lives. God could have probably healed some portion of the water that would have lasted the generation that cried for the breakthrough, but His desires was for a complete healing that will lasts for generations.
Until the root of a tree is completely removed from the ground, the stump may bud at the scent of necessary nutrient. Similarly, unless a man deals with the root of spiritual battles, he may never cease from running from pillar to post. If you seek complete transformation and lasting breakthrough, you must be willing to bring God to the root of the matter. The source is where God’s power manifests most distinctly. At the spring—the source of the contaminated waters causing barrenness—Elisha declared God’s word clearly. When we open ourselves fully to the Lord, His presence shines brightly, eliminating all obscurity. Lasting breakthrough is the result of this profound openness.
Consider what you may have been withholding from the Lord. Are you praying for healing but find yourself afflicted again and again? Recurring issues require root-cause analysis. Until the foundation of the matter is addressed, victory will remain elusive. To experience total victory, the devil must find no basis for accusation in your life.
In your journey to seek God’s transformation, remember that the Lord responds to earnest calls. Obedience to divine instructions, addressing root issues, and complete openness to the Lord are the keys to lasting breakthroughs. Just as the source of the water was purified in Jericho, may you experience total transformation that endures for generations.
